Not sure what happened, but I could no longer edit the blog or access Settings, so have recreated and here we go to restart!
Finally! the
Sat Phone has arrived.......what a saga!
After having made 3 calls to Optus regarding the purchase of a
satellite phone, one on 17/5, one on 30/5 plus email notification,
and one on 31/5 as there was no follow up from the call on 30/5 – all of which
advised that someone would call me within 24 hours and a total, wait time
of 11 days from my first call, I finally have the SAT PHONE!
To be fair, Optus provided all the required information and liaised with
the third party supplier. It was the third party supplier that was
slack. So saying that, Optus are selling the brand under their name, so
the responsibility for the supplier's lack of performance is totally theirs to
deal with - not mine!
It was certainly very frustrating and disappointing at the
time because I wanted to ensure that Claire and I would be able to communicate
when out of normal range in case of emergencies. I had done all my
research with the help Optus plus via the internet information so I
knew what type of phone was going to suit my purpose.
From a sales perspective, reasonably unbelievable. As you cannot
purchase this phone over the counter, one is relying on good, efficient service.
And to have the money in hand and no-one wants to take it - what can I
say, except in the words of "Pretty Woman" - "Do you work on
commission?!"!
How extraordinary that nobody seemed to want to make a very easy sale!

The blog has commenced for the great glider trailer travels!
End of July, Vivski and Pidge (Viv and Claire - alias Thelma and Louise!) will be hurtling into the wilds of the Nullabor with a 32' glider trailer on the back. Lord help us and anyone else in the way. Hope the Merc makes it otherwise there will be a lot of sandwiches consumed on the side of the road with a modicum of praying going on.
Looking at a SatPhone to purchase, which has been on the agenda for a while. Good investment, methinks. Especially with these two intrepid chicks gallivanting around the countryside wondering what the hell they are doing! Ah Ha me hearties....it's the adventure that counts!
